Embrace your Culture

Our modern mind is tormented by hubris. It thinks it knows a lot and can assess the consequences of political actions. But estimating consequences is usually closer to reading tea leaves than to science. For we can hardly estimate our ignorance.

So, some argue for or against CO₂ taxes. For or against religion. For or against unconditional basic income. And all of these things are a massive change in the structure of our society. And to think you can assess the consequences is naive.

So, I plead to make friends with your culture and your system and see it as part of your own being. Just as you are part of the system. Try to change things incrementally and locally. With a horizon, where you think you can estimate the consequences. Yet, you can’t do that either. Your life is fundamentally enhanced when you see yourself as part of your neighborhood, your city, your country. Because we predominantly only value objective things. We think that if we helped our neighbor, her life would be better. But you underestimate the psychological effect on you. Because there is enough toxic behavior that only fights to destroy your own system, more precisely to introduce things that have the potential to do that.
