Stupidity tolerance

The quality of a society is shown by how much stupidity it can tolerate.

It is a new side of tolerance and an antithesis to the messages of reason. The usual tolerance sends the message that all life designs and values have their justification. This may often be the case, but I do not see the value of many life designs. I consider them inhumane, short-sighted, naive and stupid.

But what is to be done? Do I need to act against these attitudes? Perhaps already on an individual level. But a look at the Corona crisis and one to other countries has shown: The more stupidity is tolerated, the better off people are. Actually, it is solely the message of freedom.

What about the truth? This is a double-edged sword. We as mankind are miserable in estimating our ignorance. A look at the Corona crisis makes this clear. Science married with politics does not yield wisdom, but an intolerant, absolutist, unscientific doctrine. After all, the measures only work if everyone goes along. Therefore, opposition is something hostile. As a result, measures cannot be questioned. This circumvents scientificity and democracy. This is not meant to be a criticism of the handling of the Corona crisis. It is only a pointing out of what the consequences are when one believes to know what the truth is. This pseudo-knowledge closes the way to further knowledge.

Therefore, we must practice being tolerant of those who seem stupid from our point of view. Are you religious? The more religions and unbelief can be tolerated, the better. Are you an atheist? The more religiosity that can be endured, the better. Are you leftist? The more right-wing thought can be tolerated, the better (and vice versa). Are you a communist? The more capitalism can be tolerated, the better.

Besides the explanation of the self-destruction of knowledge from above, there are other arguments for it. And that is the adaptability. The more different people we allow, the more likely we are to accommodate the rescuing heroes in a future crisis. If we have only like-minded people, we are not flexible to react to new things.
